November 16th- Weekly Blog

Happy Friday,

Reminders:
- Learning Conferences are on December 5th and 6th, bookings will open shortly
- Field Trip to Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra Wednesday November 21st

Math/Science:
In math this week we put our multiplication skills to the test with some word problem practice. Students worked on identifying key information, determining operations needed and implementing a "mental math" strategy to aid their process. We looked at using the following strategies to help us with those tough numbers 6,7,8's- Annexing the Zero, Rounding, Distributive Property, Compensation and Compatible Numbers. These strategies helped students find entry points into tough multiplication facts, while building their basic fact knowledge.

In science this week we had an amazing field trip to Inglewood Bird Sanctuary on Thursday. During this trip we learned about the water cycle, weather phenomena, weather tracking, wildlife and wetland ecosystems.

Next week in science we will be starting a group project where students will build a man-made wetland in a 3-D poster format. This should be a very fun project where students will get to show their understanding in a very visual way!

Homework:
Students water cycle pamphlet is due on Monday November 19th. This should only take 20 minutes as most students are done. I will be in my class at 8:00am on Monday if students need to use that time to finish their cycles.

Have a great weekend!
