Happy
Friday!
Math/Science
This week
in math we continued working with fractions, focusing on creating sets of
equivalent fractions as well as reducing fractions. Students were encouraged to
use their knowledge of fact families to find common factors between the
denominator and numerator to help them with this concept. At the end of the
week we worked on converting fractions to decimals and vice versa. Next week we
will complete a number of activities to practice converting these numbers
before moving into our next unit.
Students were
asked to add another artifact to our Collective Understanding PowerPoint this week, this should have been the 3rd artifact they have uploaded to this project. If
they did not upload an artifact before the due date (Thursday April 11th)
they will need do so over the weekend, I have discussed this in detail with them.
In science,
we talked about the different types of electricity (static and current). We
spent a few days looking at static electricity, specifically lightening and
friction, as well as sometime looking at energy sources. We discussed the
difference between non-renewable and renewable energy sources and completed and
interactive activity to determine the types of energy sources used within
Alberta and Calgary. Next week we will focus more on current electricity and
review some of the concepts around electrical safety when using current
electricity.
Have a
great weekend!
