April 26th- Weekly Post

Happy Friday!

Reminders:
Open Minds is only 5 weeks away for 5-3! Please let me know if you are interested in volunteering the week of May 27-31st, we still need volunteers on Tuesday May 28th and Friday May 31st

Math/Science:
This week in math we created a study guide and reviewed the concepts covered within our fractions and decimal unit. Students spent the week focusing on studying the parts of this unit that were the hardest for them to understand in preparation for our fraction check in on Thursday. Students did a wonderful job advocating for what area they needed to study to prepare and what style of studying they would use, games, practice sheets and discussion with the teacher and peers. Next week we will start shapes and space, a unit that will focus on spatial awareness and movement, area, perimeter and volume and 2D and 3D shapes.

In science, we looked at the anatomy of a light bulb and batteries. We discussed the difference between secondary and primary batteries and tasked students with completing a battery scavenger hunt at home over the next couple of weeks. Students learned about the different parts needed within a circuit, focusing on understanding both the definition and the electrical symbol that is attached to each electrical component.

Have a wonderful weekend!
