January 18th- Weekly Blog

Happy Friday,

Math/Science:
In math this week we continued our work with division, 2-digit by 1-digit, and briefly discussed strategies for 3-digit by 1-digit (Partial Quotient). Students had an opportunity to teach each other about remainders and create their own division number sentences with and without remainders. Next week we will get further into 3-digit by 1-digit computation, looking at the traditional long division algorithm as well as mental math strategies for estimating quotients.

In science we continued graphing our cities high, low and average temperatures for 2018 using a triple line graph. Students did very well with this and were exited to discuss the trends and patterns within their given city. Next week we will start our infographics for our given cities, focusing on "selling" the benefits of our city using the best seasons to travel to this city and the things you could do while you are there.

Health:
Over the past week students have helped create a "Wall of Kindness" within our classroom. Students created a list of kind acts and wrote them on slips of paper to be taped to their self portraits once complete. This project was designed to help students show and participate in the concept of "volunteerism" by completing selfless acts that improve our learning community. I will be posting a picture of our "Wall of Kindness" every Friday before we take down the acts of kindness and start fresh on Monday. Well done 5-3, our wall is very full of very kind acts! (see picture below!)
