January 25th- Blog Post

Happy Friday,

Math/Science:
In math we continued learning different strategies for 3-digit by 1-digit division. Students began by working with the Partial Quotient Strategy to help them estimate quotients using comfortable numbers (Steps and pictures to help with this strategy have been added to the google shared with students Math folder). While working with this strategy students spent time learning about over and under estimations as well as mental math strategies for reasoning out possible quotients based on our knowledge of related multiplication facts. On Friday we briefly talked about traditional long division and made up riddles to help us remember DMSB- Divide, Multiply, Subtract, Bring Down. Students might like to share what they came up with to remember these important long division steps! Next week we will practice, practice, practice our long division steps through a variety of math activities.

In science we have been working on our Weather Infographics. Students have really enjoyed creating these using the research and weather data they collected. Students have had a number of classes to work on these and they will be due Monday February 4th. I will not be giving anymore class time for this work so students will need to either complete them at home or come in during the homework sessions on; Monday January 28th, Wednesday January 30th or Monday February 4th. I will be available for support from 8-8:30am on these days.

Health 5-3:
Health Cartoons are due Monday January 28th.
