February 22nd- Weekly Post

Hi Parents,

Math/Science
In math we started our fractions and decimals project based off the book- If the World Were a Village. This week we used the Canadian 2016 census to compare provincial and territory population data to data from the 1991 census. Using this data we found the total number, decimal, percentage and fraction of people within each province and territory on a scale of 100. In the weeks to come we will continue to work with the concept of, Canada as a Village of 100 people, adding charts and graphs of the data we collect to make our own books. We will look at data such as, Age, Education, Language and Dwellings that exist within our country to better understand these concepts and learn about our fellow Canadians.

In science we continued our chemistry unit by completing two more experiments, an exothermic chemical reaction (yeast and hydrogen peroxide) and a mixtures experiment where we grew crystals using Borax. I have updated the PowerPoint in the google drive shared with students science folder, I would encourage students to review the science vocabulary on these slides if they missed any class time this week. Next week we will look more closely at mixtures, the different types of mixtures and ways to separate mixtures using magnetism, vaporization, etc.

Have a great weekend!
